Issues around CERB money has Gravenhurst couple frustrated

7 Décembre 2020

A three-letter word on the application for CERB is causing major stress for many across Canada this month. Revenue Canada is catching up with many who applied for the COVID benefit money saying they never qualified for the fund as they didn't make a NET of at least $5,000 in 2019. This means small businesses that considered their income net are being told no by the CRA due to the revenue agency considering that gross income instead. That means any money borrowed by those who didn't qualify has to be paid back by the end of 2020, or there will be big financial penalties. This is turning into a $28,000 nightmare for a charitable couple in Gravenhurst, who feel they've been cheated by the system and are now being forced into looking at alternate means of paying back, what they thought was miracle money, by the end of the year.
