SCHOOL BUS SAFETY FOCUSED PATROL RESULTS IN CHARGES

(LAURENTIAN HILLS, ON) - On the morning of October 25, 2021 officers with the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (UOVOPP) responded to a complaint of vehicles failing to stop a school bus on Highway 17 in the Chalk River area.

Due to ongoing issues, officers have also been conducting focused patrols of a bus routes in Laurentian Hills targeting drivers who disobey traffic laws in relation to school zone and school bus safety.

On the morning of October 25, 2021, officers charged a 24 year-old driver from Wawa, ON and a 78 year-old driver from Deep River, ON with failing to stop for a school bus.
Both drivers failed to stop for a school bus that was picking up a student on Highway 17 in Laurentian Hills. Each driver was fined a total of $490 and six demerit points.

Officers will continue to make traffic safety a priority in school zones and on bus routes throughout the school year.
